Tutorials - Big and small ones

Published: 26.10.2025

List of tutorials that explain Povray in its entirety, or take on small parts in detail.

There are hardly any large and all-encompassing ones, but sometimes I find new or very old private websites that explain certain problems very well, with clear code and example images. The latter in particular should be listed here over time.

Big ones
Lohmüller
By far the best tutorial with the help of which I have ever learned a new programming language, is the one from deceased Friedrich Lohmüller. If you remember the beginnings of HTML and the associated Self-HTML - at least in terms of quality are the Lohmüller pages.
It transforms halfway computer-savvy people from completely unsuspecting beginners up to advanced Povrayers. On top of that, all texts are available in four languages: English, German, Italian and Spanish. The website is in the hands of povray.org and will continue to be operated by them, it will not go offline so quickly despite the absence of the creator.

Povray.org
The official website of Povray also offers a tutorial. However, the transition to a rigid reference is quite vague. It is more likely to help with profound problems that are not addressed on the Lohmüller pages.
